![]() Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. There must be something I am doing wrong otherwise I have wasted $200 updating to a GPS I can load custom routes into. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of using a GPS? I found a workaround by creating my shaping points a distance before or after the intersection so that I am going in the correct direction while the GPS creates the next leg. This being the case I have to remember which way to turn at each intersection so the unit will create the next leg. Sometimes it will create the next leg of the trip but not till I have driven well beyond my way point. From there my GPS wants to route me back to the start point. ![]() The route only shows from the start point to the first way point. When I load this into my 2595LMT each way point becomes a destination. Once I have my route created I open the route dialog and set each way point between the start and finish to Don't Alert (shaping point only) Everything looks great in BC. ![]() I want to follow a route of my choosing so I created the route by clicking points along the route, mostly at intersections. One nice thing about this POI approach (vs Favorties) is that there is no "clutter" the only elements that you have to deal with are those in the POI route file.Where am I going wrong? I have created a route using the New Route tool. See your computer's operating system below for instructions. ![]() Trip Planner is a simple and intuitive feature in Garmin BaseCamp to help plan a trip. If that's going to be a problem, you can name/number each file as described in the posts above. Create a Trip Using Trip Planner in BaseCamp Note: Steps to install BaseCamp can be found at How to Install Garmin BaseCamp. Personally, though, I just find it too distracting while driving.Īs with any POI file, the POIs will appear in order of proximity. Many people on this board take that approach. Then you go back to the first POI, Go To it, and make it a via point. Instead of going to the next POI, you Go To the one after it. As you approach/visit/pass each waypoint, you hit the Back button and go to the next POI in the file. Follow each POI point by point, in sequence. In use, there are two ways to approach it: I save each route with a file name that begins with the word "Route," so that all routes are grouped together, eg: Route - Grandma's, Route - NASCAR. If you wish, create a proximity alert for each, eg 2 miles out. Use MapSource to create what it calls "waypoints," for every turn or stop along your route. You can also create ersatz "routes" by creating custom POIs, rather than Favorites. Thanks! (and please go easy on me, I'm not that sharp on this stuff yet). I tried to make a test route in the Mapsource, but it didn't seem to do anything when I tried to download it to the 650. I think I understand that I'd need to use Mapsource to help me, and so I downloaded a copy of MapSource 6.13.7 (as well as an old 4.00 version). I've looked thru the existing posts talking about waypoints, routes, etc, and got thoroughly lost (no pun intended) as to what to do or if it's even possible. My intent is to list out a group of stops - in no particular order - and then let the 650, Mapsource (or whatever) pick the order in which they should be visited.Ĭan this be done? Do I need to do something else? It does a wonderful job of finding hotels, rest areas, restaurants and the like, but now I'd like it to help me plot and direct me to my business-stops. To date, I would simply find an address on a city-map and 'guess' which stop was closest to the next one. I travel for a living and make multiple stops in various cities in a region. I'm so confused, I think my head's going to explode.
